I don’t know. I haven’t done it yet.
The ticker on the right though, says this years series opener is just around the corner.
I got along to the first run of the series last year and I tell you what, it looked great! Runners from all walks of life getting out there and having a go. Sure, towards the front of the pack there were some real greyhounds but there were also a lot of first timers and people just like you and me. People who enjoy the outdoors and are keen to give most things a go.
The Salomon Trial Run Series (STRS) is a 4 race series here in Victoria. The 2012 series looks like it has something for everyone, there are two run lengths each event. With lengths ranging from 5km (Shorty for round 1) up to 14.6 (Longer race at round 4), there are few excuses not to get out and have a go.
Event organisers, Rapid Ascent, have gone out of their way to make sure we don’t have to go too far out of ours too. The first event is practically in the heart of Melbourne. The second one is not that much further out either. The guys from Rapid Ascent did a course Recon and made this video for us.
So get excited folks.. Its going to be awesome, just how awesome it is remains to be seen.
- Sunday 24 June Studley Park, Kew, Melbourne: 5km / 10.8km
- Sunday 29 July Plenty Gorge: 6.4km / 11.8km
- Sunday 26 August Silvan, Dandenong Ranges: 7.3km / 14.3km
- Sunday 23 September Anglesea, Great Ocean Road: 7.9km / 14.6km
I won a Golden Ticket so I have absolutely no excuse to avoid any of these events and to tell you the truth I am really looking forward to them. Plus, I also need the training.
There is also a 100km event, also tailored to make it accessible to everyone keen for a new, longer challenge. Yes, I am planning to do that event too, but more on that later…
For now, I’m getting my gear ready for an arvo run.. that’s the beauty of this sport, you really don’t need much gear at all.
See you soon.
