Marysville to Melbourne 2012 – 7 Days to go

With a week to go, let me introduce you to the team.

Tuesday Night Parmas is a team of mates having a go at a number of the premier events in the Adventure racing and Multisports calendar this year. Training has been a little erratic (that’s how TNPs roll), but we are out there having a go and enjoying ourselves. This is our second attempt at Marysville to Melbourne. We were there last year as this event was dragged out of the darkness and planted firmly onto the calendar.

Meaghan will again lead Tuesday Night Parmas. Following an outstanding performance as Team Captain last year, the selection was a simple and unanimous decision this year. No-one organises people like Meaghan. Meaghan will do a Run and a Ride leg this year.

Megs has since completed the Anaconda Lorne Event in Relay with Os and runs most days, rain hail or shine.

I am doing a Ride and a Paddle again this year, Os and I have swapped paddle legs. We are both quietly a little nervous this year, last year we had a private session with Jarad Kohler in preparation and both later said we were lucky we did. No such preparations this year.

Ryan (Os) is back this year and although putting in a solid performance in the second run leg last year, he has moved over to give a new member of the team a run this year. OS has also relegated me to the second paddle. Something about me having muppet arms during the portage around Dights falls last year. Something else about me not helping him re adjust the set up of the kayak before he set off.

Os backed up the paddle last year in M2M with the swim and paddle at Lorne as part of the TNP team. If he can survive the swells at Anaconda Lorne, this weekend should give him no troubles.

And Kate joins the line up this year. Following a MVP award as support crew last year, selectors unanimously decided to “give her a go” this year in the run. This builds a bit of pressure on Os this year, focussing on the paddle alone means he’ll have to bring his A-Game to have a chance of reselection next year.

First outing as competitor of TNP – Kate claimed Best Looking, Best Prepared and overall Most Outstanding Support crew member for TNP last year.

So what is the Marysville to Melbourne?

Start in the main street of Marysville with the following:

19km FootPro run – This will be Meaghan again this year. Here’s a preview of the run legs to show you what Meaghan will face.

50km The Difference road ride – This is my first leg

41km road ride – Meaghan again this year

14km trail run – This will be Kate’s first outing as a competing member of TNP

15km Fitness Paddlers Australia River Paddle – This year Os will take this paddle

16km Yarras Edge River Paddle – I’ll bring the team home this year

Training has been a little ad hoc. The focus once again seems to have been carb loading and tapering, both skills that we have in abundance. Stand by for an interview with the TNP when the next post goes to air later this week.
